1. People are running out of ideas for ways to shock each other. Everything is so fast-paced and centered around outrageousness rather than substance. I remember John Waters talking during his commentary on Pink Flamingos about how the slowness of films during that time – the unedited long takes and quiet moments – felt revolutionary at the time in their unconventionality. In the same way, I think that at some point people will have to start yearning for the comparatively sedate and “boring”, and that conventional morality and conduct will take on the same revolutionary character that deliberate pacing or slowness did for art house audiences in the sixties.
